Selling Price Calculator
Sometimes you know your cost and what profit outcome you need, but not the price that gets you there. This calculator works backwards from whichever number you actually have in mind: pick a target margin percentage, a target markup percentage, or a flat target profit dollar amount per unit, enter your cost, and it calculates the exact selling price - along with the resulting profit, margin, and markup shown together so you can see how they relate. A natural companion to the Margin & Discount Guardrail and Markup calculators already on the site.
Enter your cost and a target margin, markup, or profit amount to get the exact selling price you need to charge.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate selling price from a target margin?
Divide your cost by (1 minus the target margin as a decimal). A $60 cost with a 40% margin target is $60 / 0.60 = $100.
How do I calculate selling price from a target markup?
Multiply your cost by (1 plus the target markup as a decimal). A $60 cost with a 50% markup target is $60 x 1.50 = $90.
Can I set price based on a dollar profit target instead of a percentage?
Yes - this calculator includes a “by profit $” mode. Enter your cost and the flat dollar profit you want per unit, and it adds them together for your selling price, then shows you the resulting margin and markup percentages for reference.
